Men’s hair has been swinging to extremes. From November beards to going bald, these are dangerously interesting times where men’s hair (or no hair) is concerned. So who’s ready to go bald?
Gone are the days when only balding men went bald. These days you could be blessed with locks to die for, but that shouldn’t stop you from trying out the bald hairstyle. It can lift a load off your head quite literally, and look fabulous. Think Vin Diesel and Bruce Willis. Now if you are losing hair, there are many ways to camouflage it with a choice of hairstyles for balding men. Or you could just throw caution to the wind, and choose to get a bald haircut, on your terms.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to shaving your head and going bald in the comforts of your home.
Let’s begin with the tools for shaving. The things you will need to gather before you start are hair clippers or a Fusion Proglide Manual Razor With Flexball, Gillette Shaving Cream Regular, and aftershave. If you don’t want to go all bald but want a stubble, you can replace the razor with bald clippers.
Step 1: Park yourself in front of a mirror in a well-lit area. Lightly moisten your hair with water and comb through it.
Step 2: It is not a good idea to start with the razor even if you wear your hair short. This is where the clippers come in. Trim your hair with a clipper. It need not be the perfect job as it will all be gone soon enough.
Step 3: Stick your head under a warm shower. This will soften the scalp and will make it easier to work in the shaving cream. Spend time here so that your scalp and stubble are thoroughly softened.
Step 4: Now bring out the razor and start from the front of your head. Using a firm hand, start shaving from front to back, ideally in one go. Avoid pressing it too hard.
Step 5: After you are done with the front, move to the side, behind your ears. Again, you must move against the grain. That is, use upward movements.
Step 6: That leaves you with the back of your head. If you have another mirror at the back it will be helpful. Or you could check how things are turning out with a hand mirror.
Step 7: Once that is complete, you can run the shower and re-check if you have missed any spots. If yes, follow the drill – shaving cream and then razor.
Step 8: If you have shaved all the strands off your head, take a cold shower.
Step 9: Pat dry and then pat some moisturizing aftershave on your scalp.
Thumbs up for going bald! But it doesn’t end here. A shaved head needs as much care as an unshaved one. You can follow these tips to make sure your bald style continues looking good.
- Use a moisturizer with sunscreen to protect the scalp from the sun and to stave off dry skin.
- Continue using a shampoo – hair or no hair.
- Shave at least once a week to keep new hair from ruining your look.
