The Mother I Never Knew by Sudha Murty – Book Review

the mother I never knew

The Mother I never Knew is a work comprising two novellas. It explores two quests of two different men trying to explore the mother they never knew.

Venkatesh, a bank manager, gets posted to a new city. People mistake him for someone else, somebody they called masterji. When this happens multiple times, he probes further, only to find that his father had an abandon wife and son who were living in poor economic situation. He is determined to change the life of his step-mother and step-brother so that he can repay his father’s debt.

Mukesh, the only son of his father realizes only after the death of his father that he is an adopted son. He sets out to look for his biological mother. As his search takes him to different places and different people, he is forced to think who his real mother is – his biological mother, who abandoned him or the mother who took care of him and made him what he is today.

Novellas go deep into the human emotions. A good read!
